Teys offer all employees the opportunity to gain nationally-recognised qualifications in the meat industry.
As most plants work outside normal public transport hours, Teys has access to buses that run on established bus routes to pick up and drop off people to and from work.
Teys has a diverse workforce, and people meet and make life-long friends very quickly. Employees participate in a number of local community events and sporting teams at all sites.
Teys has a safety record second to none, and we do strictly enforce safety procedures.
In some cases, Teys plants can offer casual work for school holidays. Contact your local plant to check availability of these types of positions.
Teys provides the opportunity for anyone who wants to learn and earn. If students currently attend a TAFE or University near one of our food processing plants, there may be opportunities for work depending on individual lecture schedules. | TeachersDid you know the type of skills that people working in the industry currently use?
Teys is a cutting-edge export beef processor and therefore, employees must have an ability to read, comprehend and follow documents such as policies, procedures, and job descriptions, as well as safety, quality and hygiene documents. They must have the ability to communicate well and, in particular, be prepared to ask questions should they not understand things.
Employees are being exposed to more and more technology. Those coming into the industry are required to learn how to operate machinery, so they should have an ability to sequence steps and follow operating procedures effectively.
As Teys is producing food for human consumption, employees must learn to maintain a very high standard of hygiene at all times.
Employees use more and more mathematical concepts in the food processing environments. Some of the concepts regularly used are: • Estimation – learning to estimate things by sight (size, distance, volume, etc.); • Conversion - learning to convert any metric values to imperial values; • Length – actually using tools to ensure distance or size is correct; • Weight – measuring can be in tonnes, kilograms, grams; • Volume – measuring in litres, millilitres; • Temperature – measuring in degrees Celsius or converting into degrees Fahrenheit; and • Projection of dates – used to work out shelf life or use-by dates.
Specifically students need to be able to: • Recognise that maths is part of the job; • Check that their results are correct; • Record any figures; • Communicate results or problems as soon as possible; and • Identify numbers, symbols, words, abbreviated words, data graphs, etc. |
